Legal secretary Maria is married to car salesman Tom. Dance teacher Larry is married to the striking Tish. Larry’s uncle is marrying Maria’s mother. Tom and Tish meet at the wedding and waste no time taking more than a test drive in his BMW. So when Maria and Larry become acquainted later in the day they already have a common interest. But more than that, they find they like each other. A lot.

On a train through Europe, Iris Henderson meets the kindly old woman Miss Froy, and they meet several other passengers over the course of their conversation. Iris later wakes up from a nap to discover that Miss Froy is nowhere to be found, and none of the people they met seem to have any recollection of her. A psychiatrist on the train suggests that Miss Froy never existed: Iris was bumped on the head before boarding, and the conversation may have only taken place in her head. However, Iris is certain that something more sinister is going on, and teams up with another acquaintance, the musician Gilbert, to find her before the train reaches its destination.

The youngest son, John (’Rafe Spall’ (qv)), an overweight buffoon and the only son holding his father’s affection is the king’s choice after the death of his first son, young Henry. But John is also overly eager for power and is willing to plot his father’s demise with middle brother, Geoffrey (’John Light (I)’ (qv)) and the young king of France, Phillip (’Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ (qv)). Geoffrey, of course sees his younger brother’s weakness and sees that route as his path to power. Obviously political and court intrigue ensues.
